I have a 10 year old Motorcyle, in my book a classic. It looks in great condition but you never really know. I decided to be prudent for safety and for peace of mind and have it fully serviced and checked right over to set a benchmark and gather information about when things might need doing, time between services and whether there was anything I needed to know about this machine to keep it running.
On advice from Kevin I went to a Harley-Davidson specialist who operated ten minutes or so from my place. I drove there to quickly discuss my needs and book the Road King in for its service/review. The place remotely resembled the old mechanic's stores you used to see in movies with exhausts and handlebars hanging everywhere, bits and pieces all over the place, old logos, books and lots of bikes. Every single bike there was a Harley-Davidson. I was feeling confident that Kevin's advice was good.
The proprietor introduced himself by first name, for the purposes of this blog let's call him Noel. I told Noel about the bike I'd bought and he immediately started asking the right questions. Was it fuel injected? Ahhh I know the one. He mentioned some of the issues I'd read about on the net and told me confidently that he could look after it for me.
Time to book it in. The lead time at the Guru's is two weeks. No problems, I wouldn't be going too far in that time. I'd need to leave it for a few days to give him time to give it a good going over. No problems, I won't need it during the week (checking that the place had nice big locks and secure doors). The deal was done and the Road King was booked into the Guru Spa and retreat for a full body treatment.
