After some forced time in the garage today was the first opportunity I'd had to take my 2009 Harley-Davidson® Road King® for a test ride after the ECM was reflashed at the dealership in order to address the issue I'd experienced with the motorcycle dropping into limp home mode. I have to say I left home gingerly, intending to ride to Pie in the Sky only 110ks or so away.
Out onto the freeway I decided to leave the cruise alone and work the throttle, staying in lane 1 in case it went pear shaped and dropped back in to limp home. Happily it didn't and I had regained some confidence in it by the time I got to the Mt White turnoff and entered the Old Pacific Hwy.
I've been through these fun curves many times over the years and I got the opportunity to conservatively ride through them and give the throttle a bit of a workout. The motorcycle ran beautifully and no sign of the issue recurring.
I enjoyed a couple of obligatory pies at Pie in the Sky, and enjoyed a chat with a couple of fellow motorcycle enthusiasts, you are never alone for long at Pie in the Sky. After some bike talk and ride talk it was time to head home. I left less gingerly but still with mind fingers crossed.
Happily I made it home, happy and somewhat confident the problem was fixed. I guess you never know with things like this, they tend to be random, but I now look forward to my next long ride and will leave home with some confidence (and mind fingers crossed).
