Tomorrow is the day I pick up my 1998 Harley Davidson Road King. Work commitments have limited my time to spend at the dealership so I decided to get a couple of the preliminary things out of the way, Insurance and a helmet.
Insurance first. I decided to go online to see what was out there. I found InsureMyRide and got an online quote, mid 400's and tried Shannons too. I'd been warned about NRMA's prices for motorcycle insurance but having been a long term customer I decided to run it through their quote system anyway. I got $1200+ with a 65% no claim bonus. Pharrque. There were a couple of vague bits in the process so I called them. I confirmed I was entitled to tgh 65% ncb but over the phone the quote went up to $1300+. It seems that because some mongrel smashed a vehicle window in a vehicle I parked a few years back and stole a bag that despite having the no claim bonus my premium still goes up.
A short side-note: See my opinion of no claim bonuses in the Unrelated Crap section
Anyhow, enough ranting. I decided to check QBE out and knew that the BMW dealership were agents for them. I felt better dealing with a person because I had a couple of questions. Kevin sorted it out adjusted my excess and the price ended up at $405 for comprehensive insurance.
Time to make the helmet decision.
