North Coast V-Twins

Today I took my Harley-Davidson® Road King® on a short trip up the Pacific Hwy to check out North Coast V-Twins and hang out with a couple of the local HOG Chapter members.  I heard there was a sausage sizzle on and that's enough to get me almost anywhere!

No hurry to get there, it's less than 400k's each way, so I left about 6am planning a stop for food and fuel at the BP on the Pacific Hwy and Oxley Highway Port Macquarie (called the donut). I caught up with some larrakins from Port Macquarie heading the same way there and after a chat and some joking we were on our way north. One of the pillions was almost as much of a caffeine addict as myself, so a planned stop at Macksville was taken to address that need.

I followed along very happily, enjoying being in a small group and not having to think about where I was going and soon enough we pulled up at North Coast V-Twins amidst about 20 or so HOG members that were already there.  I had an opportunity to have a chat with the dealer (Ash), a great bloke, who I hadn't seen since the World Superbikes in February.

The dealership itself was a bit of a surprise to be honest. Plenty of Harley-Davidson stock, plenty of merchandise and for those not so passionate about Harley-Davidsons, Ducatis were on offer and next door a range of dirt riding weapons were available too!

I personally took a shine to a used BMW K1200GT at a great price (that eventually I couldn't get past the missus).  Enough blasphemy!  While I was hanging around a group of 20 HOG Members from the Far North Coast Chapter rode in, a great spectacle, and soon after the barbie was fired up and the sausages and cokes began to flow.  After a few of hours of socialising it was time to fire up the Road King and head home.

Back at the donut as dark fell it was time to grab a quick healthy sub and change to the nightime riding glasses.  This ride gave me the opportunity for my first test of the new Dual Halogen Headlamp I'd put into the bike to try to improve the night time experience of riding and it was great!  I'll review it more in a later entry as I've got a couple of more lighting farkles on order.

Tonight I also blessed with perfectly clear weather and one of those freaky evenings when the moon is close to earth and looking very big.  For autumn it was perfect riding conditions.  Home about 8.30pm, 780 or so k's under the belt for the day and the company of good people in between. Perfect day!
