Another hot day coming up. We left Kingston fairly quickly after refuelling and taking some pics of the legendary Big Lobster. Leaving town and heading towards Victor Harbour along the "coast road" took us through some very picturesque salt flats (the Coorong), the only problem was that it stank big time, for about 100k's. Passing through Salt Flat and Policeman Point provided an opportunity to stop, but there was no way we were going to endure the odour one second longer than we needed to.
We did stopp for coffee and food at Meninige that had a beautiful lake view and didn't smell. Unfortunately the lake was being allowed to dry up so the locals werent too happy about it. We were told that they allowed it to be fished out prior to allowing it to dry up so it kept the smell down. You could see jettys ending above the water line as a sign of where the shore used to be. What a shame, the lakeside park was very pretty and if you are in this area, at least for now, it's worth a look. While there we met up with a couple that we'd seen at the motel at Kingston who had come the same way as us. Apparently either age or Toyota air conditioning makes you oblivious to salt flat smell, the only time we'd been envious of a ride in a tin box.
We continued on towards Victor Harbour and as we approached got slight relief from the heat. The high 30's low 40's temps were getting to us a bit and it was nice to have lunch by the sea. Victor Harbour was a really good place wioth a seaside resort feel and well worth a trip if you are in SA!
We left there for Adelaide and the temperatures soared. Riding into town in traffic in the heat was rather awful but we eventually arrived at our accommodation for the night, the Millers Apartements in Hindley Street, just up the road from the Crazy Horse that was out of bounds for us on this trip.
After a shower and cooling off it was time to shop for things one of our number had left behind and then do as much washing as we could to prepare for the desert coming up for the next few days. We then had afternoon tea and relaxed before dinner with some friends at Eros Ouzeri in Rundle Street. Another sensational meal, calamari, duck, white bait, lamb and more. At 11pm it was still quite hot walking back to our digs for the night but we took the time to show the young'n where the famous Crazy Horse was even if we weren't going in.
By all reports it's going to be hotter tomorrow and we've got nearly 700 k's to ride to Port Lincoln via Port Augusta and Whyalla thanks to the SeaSA ferry deciding to stop operating. This was also going to be our last chance at 4+ star accommodation for a while so we made the most of it.
