Today the weather was beautiful, typical mid week day it seems.  Unusually, it wasn't up to me to get the kids to school and I had an 8.30am breakfast meeting at one of our business' partners offices who were presenting on some technology of interest.

I couldn't resist the urge to ride the Road King to the meeting.  Opportunities

I have a 10 year old Motorcyle, in my book a classic.  It looks in great condition but you never really know.  I decided to be prudent for safety and for peace of mind and have it fully serviced and checked right over to set a benchmark and gather information about when things might need doing, time between services and whether there was

Bugger! Sunday morning and it's raining again.  Thick clouds abound and no sign of the sun peeking through anywhere.  We went about our usual Sunday routine with me peering skywards at every opportunity.  My son was keen to get out on the bike again after his first pillion experience the day before.

4pm saw a break in the

After the first shopping trip, I was happy that my son had a helmet and gloves.  That, in my mind, was enough to get him started.  My wife didn't agree so she and I went back to the Big Bike Shop to look for a Jacket for him and she also wanted to see what the ladies Harley Davidson fashion had in store for her.

There was a ladies

Today is the first Saturday that my new to me Harley-Davidson was at home available to ride.  It was clear that my son wanted to be involved so off we went to the Big Bike Shop to look for gloves and a helmet. Gloves were easy, a pair of light weight leatheries for $49.95.  He had a particular taste for a helmet desingn, "I don't

After the excitement of bringing the Harley-Davidson home I was looking forward to getting on it and going for a ride.  With his new helmet and jacket so was my son.  Happy in the knowledge that I wasn't going to get out by myself I was looking forward to sharing his first outing on a motorcyle, and a Harley Davidson to boot!

The day had arrived, I was to pick up my new second hand 1998 Harley Davidson Road King and take it home.  The $19,000  balance was deposited in the dealer's account, I had a helmet, insurance was organised so over I went about 2pm.  All was ready when I got there so the paperwork was done efficiently, the Harley Davidson had been

No claim bonuses are bullshit.  If you claim and they say it doesn't effect your no claim bonus, they still give you the full bonus but they put your premiums up to offset it.  The explanation.. because now you've claimed you are in a higher risk category, "but you get to keep your no claim bonus  so what's the problem?"

The decision about the helmet was made, I was looking for a full face.  The difficulty was finding one that suited.  The Nolan XL size fitted the best but I couldn't find one in black at any of the motorcycle stores in the area that I wanted to visit. Which left the one I had decided not to revisit.

One last chance, so in I went.

I've never seen the sense in slapping copious amounts of sunscreen (or risking the alternative), going out in the breeze at speed and having bugs hit me in the chops.  Putting on a material mask to stop that seems hardly worth it.

I've never poo-pooed those who enjoy the open faced part of the motorcycle experience, but it's just not
