The cones floated off the straight.

We left Rosehill in the rain and headed out on the M4 to Oran Park.  The rain didn't slow but fortunately the newly aquired wet weather gear kept us comfy.  It took a little longer than expected to get there but we arrived close enough on time, among the last two or three.

Getting off the bike my son and I were pretty excited, but that was short lived.  While the Advanced Course is often run in the wet, it seems that the combination of the masses of rain and the recent V8 Supercar event had left the track too slippery to walk on let alone ride on and the instructors felt it was unsafe to run the course.

Fair enough.  Despite the cost an effort in getting there (particularly while battling the weather), I wasn't really fired up enough to end up testing the kevlar in my jeans while watching the Harley slide on its side smashing grips, blinkers and crashbars just quite yet.  I was sort of glad, while I was keed to learn I think I'd rather do the track in the dry and actually let loose a little, I can't find the safe limits, braking abilities and lean angles of the machine being ultra conservative on a wet track.  An offer of refund or rebook with a discount on an additional course was good enough.

I ran into Brad Cox, a person who I worked with in another life and had a nice catchup chat with him.  He's now one of the instructors of the course.  The world is a small place.

Oh well, I had a cup of coffee to warm up, my son grabbed some minties and we got our minds right for the long ride back home in the wet.
