National HOG Rally Day 2

Date:
By Wom Battle

Zanderhar(d) and I have been away from home for a few days now and because of the cool (read freezing) weather we have been wearing pretty much everything we brought at the same time.  Today was to be a take it easy time.

The morning was cold, damp and misty so we didn't rush out.  About 10am we decided to head over to the Rally site to see what was going on.  At the time the photo I took showed the ski lift shrouded in fog and the temperature was still sub 2 degrees with a stiff breeze adding to the chill.  We make it to the nearest coffee shop/cafe, made our way inside and enjoyed some warming drinks and lots of chatting with members of other Chapters.

The show and shine was on so we had a quick look at some lovely examples of the Harley-Davidson® Motorcycle (I wish I had had the time to clean mine!) and went to the grocery store for some snack food and medicinal alcohol (I was told that Butterscotch Schnapps was good for the cold).  Zanderhar, never one to pass up an opportunity for food, convinced me that any time was Burger time so lunch was eaten and we went back to our digs for a quiet early afternoon of TV and washing.

The chores done and with the sun now out it was time to head back into the Rally area to see what was happening.  The first thing we noted was that one of the ski lifts were operating and we took some time to go for a couple of laps up and down the mountain.  Even without snow the view from the chairlifts was spectacular and the chatter among the HOGS as we passed them on the lift was a hoot.

We spent some time looking through the vendoe stalls, chatting with H-D people and watching the proceedings and soon realised that if we were going to make a night of this we were going to need more clothes on again.

Second time out, adorned with t-shirt, two long sleeved shirts, my leather jacket, vest, riding pants (kevlar lining isn't just good for sliding), a couple of pairs of socks, summer riding gloves and a Santa hat and a couple of warmup Schnapps I was ready for anything so we returned to the Rally area, straight to the Hoo Haa pub and sat down to a very nice beef curry.

That done it was time to enjoy the music and fun.... ahh you had to be there :-)
