After spending Christmas overseas with the family I was looking forward to getting back on the Road King after a rideless 8 days. Unpacking, restocking and general post trip duties completed my wife suggested that we all go somewhere for lunch, three in the car and two on the bike. Sounded a good idea to me, the outing ticked a number of boxes, ride time, family time, lunch and also quiet time there and back.
It was a warm day, low 30'sc, so sticking to the coast made sense. We decided on Tea Gardens, a nice little spot on a river about 70-80k's away. Despite the heat, it was great getting back on the road on the bike. The trip up's a little boring, double carriageway cruising and nothing you would call corners, but given there was a car travelling with us it was good enough.
We ended up at a lovely cafe/gallery (Nicole's) overlooking the river had lunch, relaxed and espoused the niceties of being back in Australia. We spent about an hour eating and rehydrating and decided it was too hot to stroll around and time to head back.
Cruising at 110 or so back the temp got to 34 or so but it was still comfortable enough to be enjoyable. My son nearly dozed off a couple of times but he made it back without having a nap. Glad to get back to the aircon though and some minimalist preps for NYE. Tomorrow I guess the Road King will be 11 years old.
